By Everyday Mzansi | Community
Johannesburg is preparing to lace up its walking shoes as thousands of residents get ready for the highly anticipated 702 Walk the Talk 2026, with Absa stepping in as the event’s City Champion Partner to celebrate the people who continue to shape the City’s future.
Taking place on Sunday, 26 July 2026, the annual event will start and finish at Ellis Park, offering participants the opportunity to experience Johannesburg through 5km, 8km and 15km routes that weave through some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, public art spaces and vibrant cultural precincts.
More than just a community walk, the event celebrates the resilience, creativity and determination of the people who make Johannesburg one of Africa’s most dynamic cities.
Celebrating Johannesburg’s Everyday Heroes
Through its “We See You Jozi, Asambe” campaign, Absa is encouraging South Africans to rediscover the city while recognising the individuals, entrepreneurs, artists and communities who contribute to its growth every day.
The campaign transforms the Johannesburg CBD into a living showcase of ambition, innovation and possibility, inviting participants to experience a city that honours its rich heritage while embracing a future driven by entrepreneurship and collaboration.
Investing in a Better Johannesburg
Absa’s involvement in Walk the Talk reflects its continued investment in Johannesburg’s revitalisation.
Working alongside Jozi My Jozi, the bank has invested more than R12 million in projects aimed at creating a cleaner, safer and more accessible inner city.
These initiatives include:
- The restoration of the Nelson Mandela Bridge through solar lighting, landscaping and public art.
- The installation of 500 solar-powered lights across key areas of Johannesburg.
- Community-driven projects designed to enhance safety and improve public spaces.
These efforts form part of Absa’s broader commitment to inclusive economic growth and sustainable urban development.
Thousands Ready to Walk
With more than 17,000 participants already registered, anticipation continues to build for one of Johannesburg’s biggest community events.
Speaking ahead of the event, Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, Chief Executive of Personal and Private Banking Pan-Africa at Absa, highlighted the importance of celebrating the people who keep Johannesburg moving.
“Johannesburg is a city built by people who show up every day to make a difference. Walk the Talk celebrates the resilience, energy and optimism of the individuals and communities who keep our city moving forward. It is an opportunity to honour these everyday heroes while showcasing the incredible potential of Johannesburg.”
