Space Rescue Liberty Promenade: 10 Days of Epic School Holiday Fun

Space Rescue Liberty Promenade is giving Cape Town families an out-of-this-world way to spend the September school holidays, with young explorers invited to crack codes, hunt for clues and rescue a missing astronaut.

From Friday, 25 September to Sunday, 4 October 2026, Liberty Promenade will transform its former cinema space in the Food District into a futuristic space-themed adventure called Space Rescue: Your Mission Awaits.

The immersive experience is designed to get children, families and friends working together as they take on an urgent mission: Captain Nova is lost in space, his spacecraft has suffered a critical systems failure, and a rescue crew is needed.

For families looking for something different to do during the school holidays, the activation combines interactive challenges, problem-solving and imaginative play in a space-inspired environment.

Space Rescue Liberty Promenade puts families on a rescue mission

Once inside the experience, teams will step aboard the spacecraft and navigate a series of themed rooms designed to test their observation, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Explorers will need to crack codes, uncover hidden clues and complete a series of challenges to help bring the spacecraft’s systems back online. But that is only part of the mission.

A trail left behind by Captain Nova will also need to be followed, with participants working together to discover what happened to him and, ultimately, find a way to bring the missing captain safely home.

The adventure is designed to encourage children to think creatively while giving families an opportunity to experience the challenge together.

Crack the codes and collect the stars

One of the highlights of the mission is the Meteor Room, where young explorers will search for hidden QR codes.

These codes reveal Energy Stars, which participants can collect as they make their way through the experience. Finding the stars could unlock instant prizes, adding another element of excitement to the mission.

The biggest challenge, however, remains Captain Nova.

Explorers who successfully complete the mission and locate the missing captain will stand a chance to win a share of R6,000 in Liberty Promenade vouchers.

And because every successful space mission deserves a little celebration, victorious astronauts may also receive a surprise ice cream treat from Two Scoops of Happiness.

An immersive school holiday experience in Cape Town

With futuristic décor, interactive challenges and plenty of opportunities to capture the experience, Space Rescue: Your Mission Awaits is designed to offer families an imaginative alternative to the usual school holiday activities.

The activation takes place inside the former cinema space in Liberty Promenade’s Food District, transforming the venue into a setting where young explorers can temporarily leave Earth behind and enter a space rescue mission of their own.

The experience is particularly suited to families and groups of friends who enjoy puzzles, challenges and interactive entertainment.

For parents looking for family activities in Cape Town during the September school holidays, the activation also offers a relatively short experience, with each session running for approximately 20 minutes.

When and where to experience Space Rescue

Space Rescue: Your Mission Awaits will run daily from 11:30 to 16:30, from Friday, 25 September until Sunday, 4 October 2026.

The experience is located at Liberty Promenade in Cape Town, inside the former cinema space in the Food District.

Sessions are available in 20-minute time slots, with tickets priced at R20 per person.

Bookings can be made at the activation area, with both cash and card payments accepted.

For families planning their school holiday activities, it is worth allowing enough time around the session to explore Liberty Promenade and enjoy the surrounding Food District.

Can you save Captain Nova?

The mission is simple: enter the spacecraft, solve the clues, restore its systems, find the missing captain and get him home safely.

But with codes to crack, Energy Stars to discover and a series of challenges standing between the rescue crew and Captain Nova, completing the mission will require teamwork and quick thinking.

Whether your young explorers are fascinated by space, enjoy solving puzzles or simply want to try something different during the holidays, Space Rescue Liberty Promenade promises an adventure where the whole family can get involved.

Gather your crew, prepare for liftoff and get ready to put your skills to the test.

Captain Nova needs you. Can you save the mission in time?
