SEVEN Hotel Sandton Unveils R18 Million Refurbishment Built Around the Senses

SEVEN Hotel Sandton has completed an R18 million refurbishment of its 44 rooms and 17 villas, introducing a five-star hospitality concept designed around the senses and focused on giving guests a space to slow down, switch off and reconnect with themselves.

The Sandton property, part of The Capital Hotels & Apartments, has redesigned all 61 rooms and villa suites, from its Grand Luxe rooms through to the Presidential Villa Suite. The refurbishment is built around the idea that luxury should be experienced through every sense, rather than simply seen.

The five-star property, part of The Capital Hotels & Apartments, has completed a refurbishment worth more than R18 million, covering all 61 rooms and villa suites, from its Grand Luxe rooms through to the Presidential Villa Suite.

The redesign is centred on the idea that a hotel stay should engage the senses โ€” and ultimately give guests the opportunity to slow down, switch off and leave feeling more composed than when they arrived.

SEVEN Hotel Sandton: A Quiet Escape in the Heart of Sandton

Located on Helen Road in Strathavon, SEVEN is positioned as a secluded oasis close to Sandton’s commercial centre.

The hotel is about seven minutes from Grayston Drive and approximately two kilometres from the Gautrain, putting it within easy reach of the area’s business hub while retaining a more private, leafy atmosphere.

Its gardens, mature trees, water features, art and sculptures are central to the property’s new identity.

For business travellers, that creates a setting where a breakfast meeting or overnight stay can feel removed from the pace of the surrounding city.

For leisure guests, the appeal is similarly about having a place to retreat to without having to leave Sandton.

A hotel designed around the five senses

The refurbishment places particular emphasis on how guests experience the property rather than simply how it looks.

Sight

Greenery, mature trees and curated art and sculpture are used throughout the property to create a visual contrast with the glass, concrete and traffic associated with Sandton.

The result is a hotel that feels intentionally secluded despite being close to one of Johannesburg’s busiest commercial districts.

Sound

Water features provide a gentle background sound in the gardens during the day, while the villa suites have been designed with quiet in mind.

That emphasis on tranquillity extends into the early morning, when the hotel aims to offer guests an environment that feels removed from the activity outside.

Smell

The property’s sensory approach also extends to its surroundings.

Garden air carries the scent of grass and seasonal blooms, while spaces such as the Poison Ivy lounge and Spa by Camelot are designed to provide a different atmosphere from the energy of the city.

Taste

Food plays a central role in the experience through Textures, SEVEN’s restaurant.

The restaurant focuses on fresh ingredients and straightforward but refined dishes, with service from 06:30 to 22:30.

Guests can dine indoors or under the stars, while private dining is available for those looking for a more intimate experience.

For some visitors, the restaurant may be the first reason to visit the property โ€” and the hotel hopes the dining experience will encourage them to return for a longer stay.

Touch

The emphasis on touch is carried through the property’s accommodation and social spaces, including the redesigned villas and Jacuzzi Villa Suites.

Leather, low lighting and intimate interiors shape the Poison Ivy lounge, which offers champagne, cognac and cigars for guests looking to extend their evenings.

From five senses to a sense of self

SEVEN’s concept goes beyond the traditional five senses.

The hotel describes instinct as the sixth sense โ€” something that cannot necessarily be designed but can emerge when the surrounding environment consistently feels comfortable and considered.

The seventh is described as a sense of self: the feeling of being completely yourself rather than performing a role dictated by a busy city.

That philosophy sits at the heart of the refurbishment.

โ€œSandton asks a great deal of the people who move through it,โ€ says Marc Wachsberger, founder and CEO of The Capital Hotels.

โ€œWe reimagined SEVEN so that it gives something back. Whether you’re an executive in for two nights who needs to stay sharp, or a couple from down the road booking a villa suite twenty minutes from home, we want you to leave feeling composed and more like yourself than when you arrived.โ€

For Wachsberger, that feeling represents a different definition of luxury.

โ€œComposure is the new premium.โ€

More than a hotel for overnight stays

SEVEN is designed to cater to both business and leisure guests.

The property offers conference and event facilities, hosts weddings and is pet friendly.

Room service is available 24 hours a day from Tuesday to Saturday, adding flexibility for guests whose schedules do not follow conventional hotel hours.

The property also continues to position itself as a destination for dining, meetings and occasions, rather than simply somewhere to sleep while visiting Johannesburg.

Its proximity to Sandton’s business district makes it particularly suited to executives, while its villas and spa offering provide an alternative for couples and local guests looking for a short escape without travelling far from home.

SEVEN Hotel Sandton: A Different Take on Luxury

The refurbishment reflects a broader shift in how luxury hospitality is being presented.

Instead of focusing solely on size, spectacle and visibility, SEVEN’s new concept places greater emphasis on privacy, quiet, personal space and the emotional experience of a stay.

In a district known for business, shopping, nightlife and constant movement, the hotel is positioning itself as somewhere guests can step away from that pace.

โ€œCome to your senses at SEVENโ€ is therefore more than a tagline for the refurbished property. It captures the hotel’s attempt to make the experience of staying there the centre of its luxury proposition.
