Pride of Africa Month 2026 brings a month of culture, connection and queer celebration to Johannesburg
Pride of Africa Month 2026 is set to bring Johannesburgโs LGBTQ+ community and allies together throughout October with a programme spanning parties, empowerment, fashion, storytelling and the annual Johannesburg Pride March.
Launching on 3 October, the month-long programme aims to create spaces where people can connect, celebrate identity, showcase creativity and build meaningful community beyond Pride Month itself.

Pride of Africa Month 2026 starts with a rooftop celebration
The festivities begin on 3 October at 18:00 with Pride of Africa ร Rush: Pride Month Kickoff at Level 3.
The opening event will welcome the community with rooftop cocktails in a relaxed and inclusive setting, providing an opportunity to reconnect with friends, meet new people and officially mark the start of Pride of Africa Month 2026.
Organisers say the event is designed as a feel-good and welcoming space where guests can arrive as they are and begin the month surrounded by community.

Johannesburg inner city gets an all-white Pride celebration
On 10 October, the celebrations move to Carvo Lounge for the SECRT Venue: The All-White Party.
Running from 12:00 until late, the event will bring queer joy and visibility into Johannesburgโs inner city, with guests encouraged to embrace the all-white theme.
The event forms part of Pride of Africaโs broader programme of social experiences designed to bring people together through music, fashion and celebration.
Pride of Africa Empowerment Summit focuses on opportunity and inclusion
The programme takes a more reflective turn on 16 October with the Pride of Africa Empowerment Summit.
The summit will focus on the lives, ambitions and opportunities of LGBTQ+ people, with particular attention given to young people.
Discussions will explore themes including identity, inclusion and leadership, as well as some of the barriers that continue to affect meaningful participation in society and the workplace.
The summit is intended to go beyond conversation by encouraging participants to recognise their potential, strengthen their voices and establish connections that can continue beyond Pride Month.
The Queer Met 2026 celebrates African archives and queer creativity
One of the highlights of the month will be The Queer Met: African Archives, taking place on 24 October.
Returning under the theme African Archives, the event will celebrate African creativity, queer expression and the stories that connect generations and communities.
Positioned as a premium networking experience for influencers, creatives and community leaders, the evening will combine a tasting menu with fashion, performance and storytelling.
A runway exhibition will showcase emerging queer designers, while a songstress and poet will contribute to the evening through music and spoken word.
The Queer Met is designed to highlight the talent and cultural expression within the queer community while creating a space to celebrate the stories and experiences being carried forward.
Johannesburg Pride March returns on 31 October
The month will culminate in Pride of Africa Day and the Johannesburg Pride March on 31 October 2026.
A separate detailed announcement is expected to provide further information about the march.
The 2026 Johannesburg Pride March is being co-hosted by the City of Joburg, with support from Mercedes-Benz, BCG, Wilson, Google, Ernst & Young and Baker McKenzie, alongside beverage partner Heineken.
The march will provide a major public platform for visibility, community participation and celebration as Pride of Africa Month draws to a close.
Pride of Africa Month 2026 creates space for community and visibility
From rooftop gatherings and inner-city parties to conversations about empowerment and a showcase of queer African creativity, Pride of Africa Month 2026 is taking a multi-dimensional approach to Pride.
Rather than limiting the celebration to a single event, the programme creates multiple opportunities for people to connect through entertainment, culture, dialogue and creative expression.
For organisers, the month is ultimately about belonging โ creating spaces where members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies can celebrate who they are, share their stories and build connections that continue throughout the year.
With October bringing together social celebrations, meaningful conversations and the highly anticipated Johannesburg Pride March, Pride of Africa Month 2026 promises a vibrant programme for Johannesburgโs LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
